No identity check does not mean no rules. This policy says what the API may be used for, what it may never be used for, and what happens when someone breaks it.

**Quick answer — What may I use WebReaderAPI for?**

You may use **WebReaderAPI** to read public web pages for AI agents, retrieval systems, research, monitoring of public information and reading tools. You may not use it for Reading pages to collect personal data about private people, reading content behind a login or a paywall, child sexual abuse material, spam, fraud, and any use that breaks the law where you or we operate. Every request respects robots.txt, and we never help anyone get around a site's refusal. A person reads every abuse report, and accounts found misusing the service are suspended.

## Which uses are welcome?

These uses match what the service was built for:

- **AI agents and assistants** that read a page to answer a user's question.
- **Retrieval and search over public content**, such as documentation, help centres, blogs and public reports.
- **Research** on public articles, policies, prices or announcements.
- **Monitoring public pages** for changes: terms of service, release notes, product pages, news.
- **Accessibility and reading tools** that present a page as clean text.
- **Archiving and migrating your own sites** into another format.

## Which uses are forbidden?

The following are not allowed on any account, whatever the purpose given:

- Reading pages to collect personal data about private people, reading content behind a login or a paywall, child sexual abuse material, spam, fraud, and any use that breaks the law where you or we operate.
- Building profiles of private individuals, or harvesting contact details, from any website.
- Using the API, its output or several accounts to get around a site's refusal, a rate limit, a challenge page or a robots.txt rule.
- Reading content that requires a login, a subscription or a paywall, even with credentials you own.
- Reselling raw access to the API as your own reading service without our written agreement.
- Feeding the output into spam, phishing, impersonation or fraud.
- Sending requests meant to overload or harm a website.

## How do robots.txt and site owners' choices apply to me?

They apply to every request automatically, and you cannot switch them off. We respect robots.txt: our crawler identifies itself as WebReaderAPI, follows the rules written for it or for all robots, and does not read a page that a site disallows. Refused pages are not charged. If a site declares Content-Signal: ai-input=no in its robots.txt, we do not read its pages for you. If a site refuses our request, we return its answer: we never solve CAPTCHAs, log in to accounts, or try to get around a block or a paywall.

If a site you need is out of reach, ask its owner for access or use an official feed or API that the site offers. The [bot page](https://webreaderapi.com/bot/) shows site owners how to allow or refuse our crawler.

## Who is responsible for how the content is used?

You are. The pages you read keep their owners' rights: copyright, database rights and any licence the site states. WebReaderAPI delivers the text you asked for; it does not grant you a right to republish it.

Check the terms and licence of the sites you read before you store, publish or train on their content. This policy is not legal advice; for advice, consult a lawyer where you operate.

## What happens if someone breaks this policy?

We look at the facts first: a person reviews each report before any action. Depending on how serious the case is, we may warn the account, revoke its API keys, suspend it or close it.

Credits on an account closed for a breach are lost, as the [terms](https://webreaderapi.com/terms/) state. Content involving the sexual abuse of children is reported to the competent authorities.

## How do I report misuse?

Write to abuse@webreaderapi.com with the URL concerned, the date and time, and a line of your server log showing our user agent `WebReaderAPI/1.0 (+https://webreaderapi.com/bot/)`. A short, factual report is easiest to check. We do not reveal to the reporter which customer sent the request, but we act on what we find.
